Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about AR Studio.
Do my users need to install an app?
No. AR Studio uses WebAR technology. Your users simply scan a QR code or tap a link, and the 3D experience loads directly in their browser. It works on iOS (Safari), Android (Chrome), and desktop browsers without any app installation.
Will my AR experience work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. AR Studio is built on WebAR, so it runs in the browser on both iPhone (Safari) and Android (Chrome) — no app, no install. Your visitor scans the QR code or taps the link, allows camera access, and the experience opens.
Very old or low-end devices may fall back to a 3D viewer without camera AR, so the model is still viewable — nothing ever breaks completely.
Does this work in my country?
Yes — AR Studio works anywhere with an internet connection. There's no region lock and no app-store availability to worry about, because everything runs in the browser.
Your 3D assets are served from a global CDN, so experiences load quickly whether your audience is in New York, Berlin, Mumbai or São Paulo.
What AR types do you provide?
These are the AR types you can build and publish right now:
- Surface AR — place a 3D model on any floor or table.
- Wall AR — hang artwork, frames or signage on a wall.
- Image Tracking — a 3D model appears on top of a printed image.
- Multi-Image AR — several target images, each with its own model.
- Product Showcase (Multi) — several products your viewer can tap through.
More AR types — Face Filter, Portal AR, Hand Track, T-Shirt Print and Cross AR — are marked Coming Soon in the designer and will unlock as they're production-ready.
▶ Watch AR types on YouTubeWhich AR type should I choose for my use case?
A quick guide:
- Selling a product? Surface AR — customers place it in their own room at true scale.
- Art, frames, signage or TVs? Wall AR.
- Packaging, posters, menus or business cards? Image Tracking — the model springs out of the printed artwork.
- A catalogue or several printed items? Multi-Image AR — one experience, a different model per image.
- Showing a range of products in one go? Product Showcase (Multi) — viewers tap through your models.
Still unsure? Start with Surface AR — it needs no printed target and works anywhere.
What's the difference between Surface AR and Image Tracking?
Surface AR lets users place 3D models on any flat surface like a table or floor — great for product visualization, furniture, and interactive displays. Image Tracking AR attaches a 3D model to a specific target image — the model appears when the camera detects that image. Perfect for packaging, business cards, posters, and print materials.
What industries can use AR Studio?
AR Studio works for any industry — hospitality (interactive menus), real estate (architecture visualization), education (anatomy models), retail (product showcases), packaging (nutrition scanners with Image Tracking), aviation, events, fashion (virtual try-on), marketing campaigns, business cards, and much more.
I don't have a 3D model. Can I still use AR Studio?
Yes. You have a few options:
- Use our sample files to try the whole flow before committing.
- Buy a ready-made model from a marketplace like Sketchfab, CGTrader or TurboSquid.
- Commission a 3D artist — a simple product model is usually quick and inexpensive.
- Let us build it for you: our Enterprise service covers 3D modelling and the AR experience end to end. Talk to us.
What file formats are supported?
For Surface AR and Wall AR: a .glb file (used on Android and desktop) and a .usdz file (used by iOS AR Quick Look) — supplying both gives every visitor the best experience.
For Image Tracking and Multi-Image: a compiled .mind target file plus your .glb model, with an optional preview image (JPG/PNG).
Keep models lightweight — ideally under about 10 MB — so they load fast on mobile data. Sample files are available in the designer if you want to test first.
Are there sample files I can test with?
Yes. In the Dashboard deploy section, there's a "Sample Files" download button that gives you a ZIP containing example .glb, .usdz, and .mind files so you can test the platform before uploading your own assets.
How do I deploy my first AR experience?
It's a simple 3-step process in the Dashboard: Step 1 — name your project and select your AR type (Surface or Image Tracking). Step 2 — upload your files by clicking or dragging & dropping them into the upload zones. Step 3 — customize your viewer settings (branding, buttons, colors) and hit Deploy. You'll instantly get a QR code and shareable link.
Can I customize how the AR viewer looks?
Yes. In the Viewer Customization panel you can: hide AR Studio branding (Creator & Pro plans), add a custom header text, set an info popup message, add a website button with custom color, and choose between a gradient or flat-color AR button. All changes are previewed live before you deploy.
Can I password-protect an AR experience?
Yes — on Creator and above. Turn on Password in the viewer customization panel and set a code. Anyone opening the link has to enter it before the AR loads.
It's ideal for client previews, unreleased products, paid content, or any experience you don't want publicly accessible.
Can users take photos or videos in the AR viewer?
Yes, in Image Tracking AR mode. A capture button appears after the AR scene loads — tap to take a JPEG screenshot, or press and hold to record a video (saved as MP4 where supported). Both save directly to the user's device and appear in their normal photo gallery.
How does pricing work?
Three plans, billed monthly or yearly (yearly works out to roughly 3 months free):
- Lite — $7/mo · 10 projects · 1,000 views · Surface AR only. A low-risk way to start.
- Creator — $25/mo · 40 projects · 10,000 views · every live AR type, your own branding instead of ours, password protection, your own yourname.ar-studio.io subdomain and portfolio, plus 5 team members.
- Pro Studio — $125/mo · 250 projects · 100,000 views · everything in Creator, plus early access to new AR types and up to 25 team members.
Most people should start on Creator — it's the plan that removes our branding and unlocks every AR type. Need more? Ask about Enterprise.
What happens if I hit my view limit?
A view is one person opening one of your AR experiences, and your allowance is shared across all your projects, resetting with your billing cycle (Lite 1,000 · Creator 10,000 · Pro Studio 100,000).
Your dashboard shows live usage, and we'll flag it as you get close — so you're never surprised. If you're consistently near the ceiling, upgrading takes effect immediately and your experiences keep running.
Can I upgrade my plan later?
Yes, you can upgrade at any time from the Pricing page. Your new plan takes effect immediately. If you're on Lite and need Image Tracking AR, you'll need to upgrade to Creator or Pro Studio.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription securely at any time by clicking the "Manage Subscription" link found at the bottom of the email receipt we sent you when you subscribed. Your plan stays active until the end of your current billing period.
How do I create a .mind file for Image Tracking?
Go to the MindAR Image Compiler, upload your target image (the image you want to trigger the AR), download the generated .mind file, and upload it in the dashboard. A helpful guide is shown right in the Image Tracking section when you're deploying.
My image target isn't tracking well. How do I fix it?
Image tracking quality depends almost entirely on your target image. Good targets have:
- Lots of visual detail and high contrast (photos and busy artwork work well).
- No large flat areas of a single colour.
- No repeating patterns — stripes, grids and checkerboards confuse the tracker.
- A non-square, asymmetric composition so the tracker can tell orientation.
Also make sure the printed target is flat, well-lit and not glossy — glare and curling paper are the most common real-world culprits. If a target still tracks poorly, swapping to a more detailed image usually fixes it instantly.
How fast does the AR experience load?
Very fast. Your 3D assets are served through a global CDN (Bunny.net) which ensures low-latency delivery worldwide. Most experiences load within 2–5 seconds depending on the file size and the user's connection. A loading indicator with percentage shows real-time progress.
Can I track how my AR experiences perform?
Yes. Your Profile page has a full Analytics tab with: total views, unique visitors, AR activation rate, average session duration, return rate, views over time chart, peak hours, device/OS/browser breakdown, top countries with a geographic map, traffic sources, and languages. You can filter by time period and by project, and export the entire report as a PDF.
How do I manage my campaigns?
Your Profile page has a Campaigns tab where you can see all your projects. You can search by name, filter by AR type (Surface or Image Tracking), sort by most recent or most views, preview any project, share its link with one click, view its QR code, or delete it.
What is Enterprise, and who is it for?
Enterprise is for organisations that want AR delivered, not just enabled — brands, agencies, museums, manufacturers and larger retailers.
It includes custom project and view limits, your experiences hosted under your own subdomain, priority support, and — the big one — we build the AR experiences for you. Pricing is tailored to what you actually need. Get in touch and we'll scope it with you.
Can you build the AR experience for us?
Yes. With Enterprise, our team handles the whole thing: 3D modelling or optimising the models you already have, choosing the right AR type, building and customizing the experience, and publishing it under your brand.
You get the finished QR codes and links; you don't have to touch the designer at all. Tell us what you're trying to achieve on the contact page and we'll take it from there.
